Collaboration between the smart guys at German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence - DKFI and University of Bremen spawned a new ape like looking robot called iStruct. The lunar robot is created, designed and optimized for lunar colonization.

While a lot for moon exploration intended robots use wheels to move around, the iStruct is equipped with multifunctional devices (legs and arms) that not only provide mobility, but can also be used to grab, hold and manipulate objects.

A number of space exploration oriented researches include robots or even humanoids as the best choice for such demanding and usually long lasting expeditions, so it is quite possible we will be sending robots with physical capabilities inspired by humans, to the great unknown frontiers.
