  A simple neon sign in Photoshop
Let's create a nice and simple neon sign in a form of a paw in this basic Photoshop tutorial.

1.
  Open a new Photoshop document and press D to set a black foreground color.

Press Alt + Delete to fill the document black.

Choose the Custom Shape Tool.

Right click the Rectangle Tool to open other available shapes.

  Choose a shape you like (see picture).

  Create a new layer.
 
 
4.
  Press X key to set the white foreground color.

Create a shape.

Click, hold and drag to create a shape.

  Press and hold Ctrl key and click the Vector mask thumbnail (see picture).

You just selected your shape.
 
 
6.
  In the menu click Select, Modify and choose Contract...

In the new window set Contract by to 3 pixels and click OK.
 
 
7.
  Right click the Shape layer ...

  ... and choose Rasterize Layer.
 
 
9.
  Press Delete and then press Ctrl + D to remove the selection.
 
 
10.
  In the menu click Layer, Layer Style and choose Outer Glow...

In the new window set Blend Mode to Screen, Opacity to 75 %, and Noise to 0 %.

Set Technique to  Softer, Spread to 14 % and Size to 13 px.

Set a purple color.

Don't close the window yet...



 
 
11.
  On the left click Drop Shadow.

Set Blend Mode to Normal and Opacity to 75 %.

Set the angle to 120 degrees, Distance to 3 px, Spread 13 % and Size to 59 px.

Set a purple color.

Click OK.

  And your neon sign should be done.
