Rainbows right? Who does not like rainbows? In this Photoshop tutorial you can learn how to create a rainbow from scratch and add it to any image of your choice.

  Author: mat | Version: CS5 | 23rd August 2013 |

1.

Open a photo with the dark sky you want to add the rainbow to.

2.

Create a new layer.

Press F7 if you don't see the Layers window.

3.

Choose the Gradient Tool.

4.

Enable the Radial Gradient option (see picture).

5.

Open the Gradient picker (see picture).

6.

Click the little more gradients button (see picture).

7.

Choose the Special Effects.

8.

Click OK to replace the current gradients.

9.

Choose the Russell's Rainbow gradient (see picture).

10.

Now click & drag the mouse in the same direction as I did.

Depending on where you want your Rainbow. You can repeat this step as many times you want to make your rainbow just the way you want it.

11.

Here's mine.

12.

In the menu click Filter, Blur and choose Gaussian Blur...

Set Radius to 25 pixels and click OK.

13.

Now click the Add layer mask button (see picture).

Rainbow layer should be chosen.

14.

Again, click the Gradient picker (see picture) and now select black and white one.

You will have to reset gradients by selecting the reset preset in more options. Check out steps 4-5.

15.

This time enable the Linear Gradient (see picture).

16.

Now click & drag the mouse from the bottom to where the rainbow should start.

You can do this step as many times as you wish to make it perfect.

17.

Select Brush Tool (shortcut is B key).

18.

Then set Opacity around 30%.

19.

Now click on gradient on places you want to remove it.

I have chosen the top right side of a photograph.

20.

Set Opacity of masked layer around 60% (see the picture).

21.

And we are finished.

Let's find the treasure now :)
