Diamond pixelated effect with Photoshop

Not your average pixel effect tutorial, let me show you a nice little trick where you apply the normal square pixelated effect and turn it into checkered, diamond looking photo pixels.

1.
 

Open any photo you want with Photoshop.

 
 
2.
 

Press Ctrl (Cmd on MacOS) + J twice in a row to created two copy of the original layer.

The upper most layer should stay selected.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform.

In the toolbar set H na 45 degrees (see picture) and press Enter.

In the menu click Filter, Mosaic and choose Pixelate...

Choose the similar setting as I did and click OK.

The upper most layer should still stay selected.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform.

Set H to -45 degrees (see picture) and press Enter.

Set the layer's Opacity to 50% (see picture).

Choose the middle layer (see picture).

 
 
8.
 

The middle layer should still be selected.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform.

In the toolbar set H to -45 degrees (see picture) and press Enter.

In the menu click FilterMosaic and choose Pixelate...


Choose the similar setting as I did and click OK.

The middle layer should still be selected.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform.

In the toolbar set H to 45 degrees (see picture) and press Enter.

 
 
11.
 

Zoom in the picture choose the Move Tool (V for a keyboard shortcut) and align the squares if needed.

 
 
12.
